Exclusive interview with Glynn Wedgewood for 977 Radio

What are your musical influences?
I know its a cliché but there really are too many to mention. Its a case
of exploring something but not exhausting something if you know what I
mean. Theres so much good music in the world to get through, you just have
to keep moving and try to experience it all.

Out of the CA shows you did with the Pretenders which did you enjoy the
best and why?
I guess it would have to be one of the San Diego shows, on both nights, the
crowds were ace and the atmosphere was special. No Ron Burgundy
though which disappointed me a little

Was there any stories of your time with the Pretenders?
You mean like me getting punched by a crack-head in San Francisco, or our
manager exchanging heated words with John Lydon? There are a few but I
don't want to get sued by anyone

When is the new album released?
September 19th in the US and September 25th in the UK. The music is
ready to go but we've still got to sort a few little things out before it hits the
shops. Were just about to shoot the first video as it goes, so everything
is well in motion.

You share the singing do you also share the songwriting?
Damn straight we do! I think thats part of the reason why the songs are so
diverse. I mean why have one writers take on a situation when you can have
multiple contributors? Its far more interesting that way and certainly hasn't
done us any harm so far!

Have you any plans to do a world tour to promote the album esp the UK?
Were defo going to hit the road and well defo be in the UK. Dates are
being booked as we speak and as soon as everything is confirmed you'll
know about it. In the meantime we hit the road with Pretenders again in July.

OK so you were the best special guests the Pretenders ever had IMHO, are
you pleased to be touring with them again?
Thank you very much (the cheques in the post)! Naturally, they are legendary
band who are responsible for a lot of great music. Aside from that though
they are a great bunch to play with, the last tour really was one of the
most enjoyable we've been involved in.

Which of the East Coast shows are you looking forward to the most?
I love the Portishead DVD that was shot at Roseland Ballroom, so probably
that one. I hope they take the seats out though

Do you have a favourite Pretender's song?
I have a bunch, but I know the one that stuck in my head the most on that
tour was Fools Must Die. Theres something really unique about that one.

Regarding your setlist which would be your favourite song to play?
Probably my favourite to play at the moment is You Cant Love What You Don't
Understand. Really though it changes all of the time. I mean you'll be on
stage one night and something will click about a particular tune while
you're playing it. Then its a case of not being able to wait until the next night
to build on it.
